Research Profile
Research in the Faculty of Human Sciences
With its four departments (Department of Education, Department of Music, Department of Psychology, Department of Social Work), the Faculty of Human Sciences is a heterogeneous faculty in terms of its research topics and methods, which knows how to use its diversity productively and has great interdisciplinary research potential. The faculty's research encompasses questions from the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, which the faculty's researchers pursue using a variety of quantitative and qualitative methods. Their basic as well as application-oriented research questions can be assigned to five major focal points: (1) professionalism and professionalization in fields of education, psychology, counseling, and social work, (2) teaching, learning, and development processes within and outside educational institutions, (3) social relations of inequality and sustainable development of participation in the life course as well as in different life worlds and life situations, (4) dynamics and structures of experience and behavior at the level of individuals, groups, and organizations, and (5) production and reception of music and the exploration of musical action-spaces. With their research, the members of the Faculty of Human Sciences make important scientific contributions to the university-wide research focus "Sustainability", which is oriented towards the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN. Addressed here in particular are Goal 1: No Poverty, Goal 3: Health and Well-Being, Goal 4: Quality Education, Goal 5: Gender Equity, Goal 10: Reducied Inequalities, and Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
