Alumni work

The teaching and research area DaFZ at the University of Kassel attaches great importance to maintaining and cultivating contacts with its graduates. Our aim is to further expand the existing network in order to continuously intensify the relationships between alumni and the university as well as among each other. Such a network enables the initiation and development of collaborations, ensures the involvement of alumni in teaching and research and, last but not least, contributes to the sustainability of Kassel's GFL education. It gives alumni the opportunity to maintain and expand social and professional contacts with the University of Kassel and their former fellow students, as well as to take advantage of professional and academic training opportunities.

Our efforts to maintain contact with alumni are reflected in the following activities, among others:

  • Regular production and distribution of the GFL Newsletter, which provides information on current developments, ongoing projects and conferences or workshops in the teaching and research field of GFL and contains one "alumni portrait" each.
  • Invitation of alumni to current events, workshops, conferences etc.
  • Organization and implementation of informal meetings in which alumni and currently enrolled GFL students could participate and exchange ideas.

From 16 to 23 July 2016, the Department of German as a Foreign and Second Language organized an international meeting of Kassel GFL alumni, which was funded by the DAAD with funds from the Federal Foreign Office and pursued two central goals: on the one hand, the contacts of the department with its alumni and the existing network were to be further expanded, and on the other hand, the "alumni" were to be given the opportunity for further professional training on current trends in the teaching and learning of German as a foreign and second language. Further information on the event, in which a total of 21 alumni from twelve different countries took part, can be found here.
