Anne-Charlott Trepp has been Professor of Early Modern History at the University of Kassel since October 2012. She studied history, German language and literature, and Latin philology at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität Kiel. Her dissertation on gender relations in the Hamburg bourgeoisie (1770-1840) was awarded the 1994 Joachim Jungius Society of Science Young Researchers Prize. From 1994 to 2004, Anne-Charlott Trepp worked as a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for History in Göttingen. Between 1995 and 2001, she was the Institute's staff representative in the Humanities Section and the Scientific Council of the Max Planck Society, as well as the Institute's Women's Representative and Press Officer.

In 2006, she completed her habilitation at the University of Göttingen with a study on the relationship between natural science and religion in the early modern period. From 2007 to 2008, she represented the professorship for historical regional research at the University of Göttingen, combined with the provisional direction of the Institute for Historical Regional Research. In 2009, Anne-Charlott Trepp accepted an appointment to the professorship for Early Modern History at the Ruhr University in Bochum. From 2009 to 2013, she served on the board of the working group "Early Modern History" in the VHD. Since 2009 she has been Principal Investigator in the "Center for Religious Studies" (CERES) and since 2010 she has been a member of the Käte Hamburger Kolleg "Dynamics of the History of Religions between Asia and Europe" at the University of Bochum. In 2011, she was a mentor of the Seventeenth Transatlantic Doctoral Seminar, Early Modern German History, German Historical Institute, Washington DC. She was a member/applicant in the DFG Research Training Group 1599 "Dynamics of Space and Gender" (Kassel/Göttingen 2012-2015), a member of the international research group "Religious Dissent in Early Modern Europe: Constructions in Motion (Bonds, Languages, Objects), DFG-funded in the framework of the Atelier trilatéral "Villa Vigoni" (duration 2014-2016), and in the Loewe Focus "Animal-Human Society" (duration 2014-2017). From 2017 to 2019, she was spokesperson of the proposed SFB 1453 "Animal-Human Society: Animation - Regulation - Transformation (ART)". She is also speaker of the interdisciplinary collaborative project "Back to the Future. Concepts of Society and the Future in Historical Perspective", funded by the profile education program of the University of Kassel.

Anne-Charlott Trepp was a member of the Extended Senate from 2013 to 2015; since 2015 she has been a member of the Senate of the University of Kassel. From 2013 to 2015, she was spokesperson for the History Division in the Department 05-Social Sciences. Since 2021, she has served as Senate spokesperson.

Her research focuses on the history of knowledge and religion, the history of animal-human relations, historical futurology, the history of interdependence and mission, gender history, and the history of the Enlightenment.
