Oman, like much of the Arab region, has an extreme desert climate. An exception is the mountainous region in the north of the country, which is much more humid and temperate. However, water is becoming scarcer here as well - especially due to the transformation of land use systems, to which tourism also contributes, as a study by the University of Kassel states.
