More than "everyone fed": food sovereignty

Speaker: Steffen Kühne

There is hardly any other area where the contradictions of the economic system become as obvious as in agriculture and nutrition. Food becomes a commodity, the composition of which the
vast majority have just as little overview as the social and ecological conditions of its production. At the same time, the producers - farmers, farm workers and processors - are coming under increasing price pressure from global supply chains, and the vision of climate-neutral agriculture is a long way off.  For a quarter of a century, movements have been forming worldwide under the embattled concept of food sovereignty to counter these developments with concepts of sustainable transformation and the comprehensive democratization of food systems. This evening will focus on what the debates are about and why it is absolutely worthwhile to engage with this approach.
