New genetic engineering - without labeling on field and plate? Event of the AbL

Event also in English

We need to talk...

The EU Commission is planning to remove new genetic engineering techniques such as CRISPR/Cas from the current genetic engineering regulation . The conservative wing has now even targeted organic farming for this, i.e. a GMO-free cultivation would only be possible with difficulty.

Because of this, plants produced with the new genetic technologies would be cultivated, processed and marketed EU-wide without labeling and without risk assessment .

Missing marking and deleted cultivation distance regulations would exclude the freedom of choice of consumers and farmers completely. According to recent surveys, the majority of respondents are in favor ofmandatory labeling  of new genetic engineering (source: Foodwatch).

The new proposal is now to be voted on in the European Council and Parliament.

  • What is the current status?
  • Is new genetic engineering really the answer to climate change
  • What would it mean for agriculture?

We need to talk about these questions.

We, the jAbL and AbL, cordially invite you to this. With:

Prof. Maria Finckh from the University of Kassel,

Dr. Christoph Then from Test BioTech and

Stefi Clar from Dreschflegel e.V.

Afterwards there will be room for discussionsquestions and concerns.
