2024 | June | Kassel at the concrete canoe regatta

The concrete canoe regatta, a traditional event that takes place every two years, combines technology, creativity and sporting ambition. Teams from various colleges, universities and other educational institutions compete against each other to win in various disciplines with their self-built concrete canoes. Taking part in the concrete canoe regatta in Brandenburg an der Havel was an exciting and inspiring event for all participating teams.

The University of Kassel also took part again this year, with this year's motto being based on the world of Nintendo's computer game character "Mario". The team was inspired by the popular video game series "Mario Kart" and built two canoes that were not only technically impressive, but also a real highlight in terms of design. The creative implementation of the motto was very well received by the jury and the spectators. With great attention to detail and, of course, to the material concrete, the students had transformed their two canoes "Mario's Canoe" and "Kugelwilli" into the colorful and imaginative style of the video game, which ultimately earned them 2nd place for the best design.

The competition itself was highly competitive, with teams traveling from all over Europe for the event. Taking part in the regatta requires not only technical expertise in working with concrete, but also teamwork and a spirit of innovation. For the team from Kassel, the award was a great recognition of their creative and technical skills and motivated them to take part in such projects in the future. The event in Brandenburg an der Havel was not only a sporting competition, but also a place of exchange and inspiration where students could share their enthusiasm for concrete, technology and design.
