As part of the research colloquium for final theses, doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers, we cordially invite you to join us on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at 4:30 pm in room 3516 (Mönchebergstr. 7).

Mr. Alex Mühlbauer will present his master thesis with the title

"Topology optimization with isotropic and orthotropic materials"

We look forward to seeing you there!

Abstract

Topology optimization is a numerical method for load flow-based structural generation. Taking into account static and geometric boundary conditions, an optimal load-bearing structure is generated incrementally from the available material depending on the objective (in this case, maximizing the system stiffness). In addition to isotropic materials, orthotropic materials can also be used for this purpose. In this case, the additional directional dependency must be countered by a suitable orientation of the element fibers. In this paper, in addition to an established material distribution routine, two main stress- and gradient-based methods for optimal fiber orientation are presented and tested on standard research benchmark systems.
