Abstract

This lecture deals with the concept of homogenization and the FE2 method. Homogenization is a process to derive macroscopic properties from microscopic structures and meets the challenge of complex material behavior in engineering applications. The lecture will examine the basic principles of homogenization and show how they effectively bridge the gap between micro- and macroscale. The numerical implementation is carried out using the FE2 method. The lecture deals with the theoretical principles, the practical implementation and the areas of application of the FE2 method.
