Research colloquium: FEM simulations of moving structures taking into account nonlinear constraints for modeling actuators
As part of the research colloquium for final theses, doctoral and postdoctoral students, we cordially invite you to Monday, 09.09.2024, at 14.00 in room 3516 (Mönchebergstr. 7).
Mr. Safar Yousef will present his master thesis with the title
"FEM simulations of foldable structures considering nonlinear constraints for the modeling of actuators"
will be presented.
Summary: Large displacements and rotations occur in many foldable structures. Due to the high nonlinearity and complexity, it is difficult to calculate this type of structures analytically. Therefore, the finite element method (FEM) is used to simulate the entire motion sequence. Non-linear constraints are used in the dockSIM research code to model the actuators in the form of hydraulic cylinders. Using the example of the so-called rolling bridge, a foldable pedestrian bridge, FE models are developed to simulate different actuation strategies. In addition, the influence of certain parameters on the efficiency of the numerical solution is investigated. Furthermore, occurring numerical problems are identified, described and analyzed. Finally, approaches to solve these problems will be developed and elaborated.
We look forward to seeing you there!
