Research colloquium: Multiscale analysis of continuum and structural models using the FE² method - Investigation of the influence of the fine-scale level on the coarse-scale solution
As part of the research colloquium for final theses, doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers, we cordially invite you to join us on Tuesday, 29.10.2024, at 16:30 in room 3516 (Mönchebergstr. 7).
Mr. Moritz Reichart will present his master thesis with the title
"Multiscale analysis of continuum and structural models using the FE² method - Investigation of the influence of the fine-scale level on the coarse-scale solution"
will be presented.
Summary: In this paper, homogenization-based multiscale analyses are performed according to the Hill-Mandel condition. The algorithmic realization is done by applying the FE² method, which is implemented as a hierarchical multiscale model in the research code dockSIM of the University of Kassel. The analysis is based on geometrically linear assumptions and comprises a coarse-scale macro level, which is discretized using continuum and Timoshenko beam elements, and a fine-scale micro level, which is modelled exclusively using continuum elements. First, the model is theoretically analyzed, and specific challenges in the use of bar models are discussed. Subsequently, the research code is verified using numerical examples for linear-elastic and elasto-plastic material models. This will be followed by convergence studies of the identified problems and numerical investigations of the solutions for the beam elements taken from the literature.
We look forward to seeing you there!
