Basic studies, examinations, admission, mathematics, mechanics, surveying, building materials, etc., repeatability, prior achievements, electives, etc.

In the 6th and/or 7th semester practical professional studies / engineering internship
For all those who have struggled through the procedure of a normal course of study up to the 6th semester, now comes the ultimate, somewhat different way of studying civil engineering / environmental engineering at the University of Kassel.
12 weeksof practical application of everything that was previously only partially covered in the lectures listed above.
Whether in engineering offices, authorities, offices, construction companies or other sectors in which civil engineers work, you will be confronted with the everyday and sometimes previously unknown areas of activity of your future professional field over a period of 12 weeks.
Often, during the first five semesters, a vague idea of the so-called specialization of civil and environmental engineering training has already crystallized. Be it in the field of construction operations and management, structural engineering, transportation or water.

You are free to choose your suitable engineering internship without any predetermined requirements or inclinations. Of course, the so-called statics freak would like to prove himself/herself in the statics office for 12 weeks, but since he/she may or must do this for a whole professional career, you should also think about a so-called alternative internship in one of the many other construction domains with regard to the engineering internship. How about, for example, construction management or one or the other authority, where a not exactly small number of professional colleagues will later find themselves anyway.

Be that as it may, we will talk to each other in the 5th semester at the latest and discuss our ideas, doubts and sometimes even fears regarding the upcoming 12 weeks of trial and error.
Just one thing can be said at this point for consolation: no one has ever failed the engineering internship and even the so-called ideal/wrong choice of an internship ultimately always includes the realization that this or that area of civil engineering/environmental engineering does or does not correspond to your personal inclinations and ideas.

To ensure that no one is overwhelmed by the sometimes unmanageable flood of internship opportunities when choosing an internship and because the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering has anchored this engineering internship in its module handbooks and diploma examination regulations as a study program supervised and supported by the department, there is the Department of Professional Internship Studies, or BPS Department for short.
