Watchin' Dance - How young people receive dance

Dance plays an ambivalent role in the lives of young people. While many young people enjoy dancing in their free time and often watch dance clips on social media, contemporary dance on stage is often considered "uncool". In this project, we are therefore interested in both perspectives on dance and ask about viewing habits, modes of reception and needs of dance on stage and on social media. We are also investigating the role that music plays for young people in the reception of dance. Based on the results, a dance and music education kit "Watchin' Dance" will be developed following the project. The kit will provide multimedia, methodological suggestions for schools, cultural institutions and teacher training to support young people in the reception of dance.

Project description

We see the project as a contribution to reception research and cultural education research in dance. The aim is to identify modes of reception and educational experiences of young people as well as support options for reception processes.

Phenomenological vignette research in dance

Phenomenological vignette research is being tested as a new and innovative method for dance, sport and music education research. But what are vignettes and how is this data collection tool used for the project?
