Online psychological intervention significantly reduces refugees' distress

In their recent article at "Social Science & Medicine" Anastasiya-Mariya Asanov, Igor Asanov, and Guido Bünstorf evaluate the effects of a low-cost digital first aid tool to reduce psychological distress in refugees.

The authors evaluate an Self-Help Online intervention (online adaptation of the WHO Self-Help Plus (SH+) program) among Ukrainian refugees dispersed across 17 countries, internally displaced and not displaced Ukrainians. This is the first randomised controlled trial in which an online psychological intervention is tested simultaneously on refugees, internally displaced persons and non-displaced conflict-affected populations. The findings suggest that Self-Help Online is an effective psychological intervention for reducing stress among geographically dispersed refugees at a low cost.
