Alentejo: University of Lisbon, University of Évora
Dr. Miguel Bugalho is Principal Investigator at the Centre for Applied Ecology "Prof. Baeta Neves" (CEABN), School of Agriculture (ISA), University of Lisbon. He is a leading researcher on the sustainable management of Mediterranean cork oak woodlands.
Dr. Bugalho is coordinating a project on mapping the natural capital of cork oak and other forest ecosystems, and developed a WebGIS tool that identifies important areas for the conservation of bio-diversity and of ecosystem services. He and University of Lisbon are collaborating scientifically and practically with regards to the Alentejo study site.
Dr José Muñoz-Rojas is a senior researcher at the Mediterranean Institute for Agriculture, Environment and Development (MED) of the University of Évora. He has specialized in landscape dynamics and management and works on various projects focusing on landscape management and spatial planning as a member of the LABscapes - Mediterranean Landscape Systems team. This research team is led by Prof Teresa Pinto-Correia, who is also the Director of the MED Research Centre.
Collaboration with this team secures that the socio-ecological and planning aspects of the cork oak forests are well-covered by their years of collaboration and bridge-building with local actor networks in southern Portugal.
