Transition Perspektive
System transition (Transition perspective)
Agricultural and food systems are of fundamental importance in the current debate on ways to achieve sustainability. For this reason, the concept of "transition" has received increasing attention not only in science but also in politics, including the debate on sustainable food systems. Sustainability transitions are "long-term, multidimensional and fundamental transformation processes", which refer to fundamental, structural changes. Transition frameworks used in research on agri-food sustainability transitions include the Multi-Level Perspective on socio-technical transitions, Transition Management, Strategic Niche Management, Social Practice Approach, and Technological Innovation Systems. The most prominent transition framework is the Multi-Level Perspective, which was used to investigate different niches such as agroecology, conservation agriculture, organic agriculture, permaculture, urban and peri-urban agriculture, integrated farming, care farming, and alternative food networks.
Therefore, SysOrg Transition perspective is looking into answering two questions:
- What are the main ongoing initiatives for a transition towards sustainable food systems in each case territory?
- By which means do these initiatives address organic food and farming, sustainable diets, and food wastage?
