Presidential Board

The Presidential Board is responsible for all matters not assigned to another University body by the Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG). The Presidential Board steers the university and fosters its development in cooperation with the University Advisory Board and the other bodies, faculties, members, and affiliates of the university. The Presidential Board, in accordance with the HessHG, annually reports to the University Senate.

The Presidential Board consists of the President, the Vice-Presidents, and the Provost. The President chairs the Presidential Board, is authorized to issue guidelines and represents the University externally. The Provost heads the University administration in accordance with the guidelines of the Presidential Board and is responsible for the University's budget.

University Senate

The University Senate consults on all matters of research, teaching, and study that affect the entire university or are of fundamental importance. It supervises the executive management of the Presidential Board. The University Senate is chaired by the President.

University Extended Senate

The University Extended Senate is responsible for electing the president and vice-presidents (§ 45 para. 2 and § 46 para. 1 Hessian Higher Education Act [HessHG]).

At the request of the University Advisory Board, the University Extended Senate can remove the President from office (§ 45 para. 7 HessHG).

Council of Deans

In the Council of Deans, the Presidential Board, the Deans of the Faculties, and the Rector of the School of Art and Design consult on matters concerning budget, personnel, organization, and administration.

The Women's and Equality Officer, the Representative of the Severely Disabled, as well as the chairpersons of the General Committee of Students and the Staff Council can participate in the meetings of the Council of Deans.

Upon consulting with the Deans of the Faculties and the Rector of the School of Art and Design, the Presidential Board draws up the financial plan and establishes guidelines for agreements on objectives as well as budgetary guidelines.

University Advisory Board

The University Advisory Board facilitates the University’s development by voicing societal and professional expectations towards the university and by promoting the use of scientific knowledge and artistic contributions. Recommendations and statements of the University Advisory Board are discussed in the respective committees and bodies of the university
