Städtische Werke AG together with its affiliate and subsidiary companies operates various combined heat and power stations in Kassel, which are integrated in a district heating grid.
IdE and Department of Solar and Systems Engineering support Städtische Werke with evaluation of possible retrofit measures of its power plant portfolio. Mathematical optimization algorithms have been coupled with the numerical model of the combined heat and power plants and district heating grid of the Städtische Werke. With help of the algorithms many parameters can be automatically varied over a wide range and the optimal configuration can be found. These calculations provide a basis for decisions on future investments.
