Effizienzoptimierung und Perspektiven der Fernwärme
Short description
District heating plays an important role for the achievement of the energy and climate targets within the heat supply sector. It offers the possibility to use various energy sources and technologies, e.g. cogeneration, industrial waste heat, and renewable energies, for an efficient heat supply system. A long-term transformation strategy is required to successively increase the energy efficiency of district heating and the share of renewable energies. Along the way, the high individuality of existing district heating grids must be considered. The aim of the project is the design of a concept for the strategic development of the district heating in Kassel and to map measures for the long-term transformation.
About a quarter of the heat demand of the city of Kassel is covered by the district heating grid of the Städtische Werke AG. The heat supply is characterized by a large historically grown grid and a high share of cogeneration. To develop the transformation strategy, the current state of the district heating in Kassel will be analyzed and measures for efficiency optimization shall be elaborated. A thermo-hydraulic simulation model of the district heating grid will be established, which can evaluate the potentials of different measures, e.g. the modification of operating parameters. The aim is the initiation of demonstration projects for energy efficiency measures with a high multiplication factor. Through the practical implementation, experience can be gained and the theoretically determined results can be verified. The district heating of Kassel is to become a laboratory for the demonstration of energy efficiency measures and could identify possible transformation strategies for existing district heating grids.
