Seminar "Functional Pearls for Fun and Profit!"

The functional, side-effect-free programming paradigm is becoming increasingly important in imperative languages such as Java and C#. In this seminar papers about functional pearls will be presented:

Functional Pearls
... are elegant, instructive examples of functional programming. They are supposed to be fun, and they teach important programming techniques and fundamental design principles.

In particular, participants will practice

  • working with scientific, English-language publications
  • familiarization with a scientific field that was previously unknown to them
  • different presentation and teaching methods
  • the implementation of constructive feedback

Furthermore, they will have the opportunity to trace the development and emergence of an interesting and forward-looking programming paradigm by means of the most important older and current scientific publications.

Previous knowledge in functional programming is not necessary, but interest and the willingness to learn self-directed is required.

Of course, participants can also propose their own topics. To do so, please send an e-mail to Michael Lesniak(mlesniak[at]uni-kassel[dot]de) at least one week before the preliminary meeting, indicating the topic and literature.
