Study profile "Interreligious competence"
The content on this page was translated automatically.
The topic of "interreligiosity" is becoming increasingly important in religious education and in schools as a place of learning - both challenges and opportunities are associated with this. In three different courses and a practical unit, students have the opportunity to acquire relevant skills. These include
- a sound knowledge of other religions in terms of religious studies;
- the ability to engage in theological self-reflection on the relationship between their own beliefs and other, competing beliefs;
- the ability to perceive and reflect on biblical texts and traditions as a connecting element of the Abrahamic religions;
- the ability to enter into an appreciative dialog with people of other faiths;
- the ability to initiate and shape interreligious dialog spaces with didactic interest.
The study profile has been a cooperation between the Institutes of Protestant and Catholic Theology since summer semester 2020.
A study profile offers students the opportunity to focus on a specific subject area, in this case interreligious education, as part of their regular studies on a voluntary and independent basis.
It serves to develop a personal profile and may be an advantage when applying to schools. The courses in the study profile can be completed by L2, L3 and L4 students as part of their regular studies. Only the "Interreligious Practical Project" (see section "Interreligious Practical Project") and the final assignment in the form of a portfolio represent additional work.
L1 students are also welcome to complete the study profile, but cannot complete it within the standard course of study due to the shorter standard period of study.
All students who are enrolled in a degree program at the University of Kassel can complete the study profile.
The crediting as a study profile (i.e. whether the courses taken can be credited both for the regular degree program and for the study profile) depends on the associated degree program:
Students who are enrolled in a teacher training program in Catholic/Evangelical Religion (L2 - L4) or in the BA minor in Catholic/Evangelical Religion can complete the study profile as part of their degree program. L1 students of Catholic/Evangelical Religion must attend courses in addition to their regular course of study in order to participate in the study profile, as the regular course of study does not offer a sufficient number of courses to complete the study profile in full.
For students on other degree programs, individual decisions must be made.
Please contact us in any case if you are interested in participating in the study profile and/or have any questions!
The study profile includes three courses - here is an overview:
- one compulsory basic course (religious education-systematic)
- and two compulsory elective courses
+ Interreligious Practice Project and Portfolio
The courses that can be credited towards the study profile can be found in the current course catalog of both theological institutes under this link.
The courses are followed by a practical project (see section "Interreligious practical project"), which deepens the knowledge and skills acquired as part of the study profile in practice. After completing a portfolio, students receive a certificate.
In the "Praxisprojekt Interreligiös", participants should come into contact with the practice of interreligious education and encounter (such as community, church, youth work, refugee work, school, media, educational projects, etc.). The task is to plan a thematically relevant practice project that can be carried out as part of a block phase or regular continuous work. The practice project should comprise a total time commitment of at least 30-40 hours. This practical project must be certified and also reflected upon in writing as part of the portfolio work.
We have put together a few guidelines for the design of the portfolio, which represents the final achievement of the study profile; you can find them here in the guidelines.
You can register using the form "Registration for the study profile Interreligious Competence".
You are not obliged to complete the study profile. Completed courses remain valid in any case.
