Perhaps no country stands as much for carefree dreams and longing for happiness as Italy. Indeed, since antiquity, through all epochs, Italy has offered diverse opportunities for philosophers, literary figures, artists: the philosophy of an infinite nature, the poetic processing of aesthetic sensations, extraordinary experiences of light and landscape spring from the encounter with Italy.

But there are also dark sides. The oppressive legacy of antiquity, the greed for power, religious violence or opaque business practices have determined the negative perception and construction of Italy for centuries.

• The aim of the network is to bundle and strengthen the existing contacts to Italy at the University of Kassel.

• The network organizes free Italian-related events to intensify contacts with cultural institutions in Kassel.
