The political plant

The project "Plants, knowledge, commitment - development, testing and dissemination of innovative educational formats at nature conservation academies and botanical gardens", funded by the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU), ran from October 2019 to March 2023. The two umbrella organizations "Verband Botanischer Gärten" (VBG) and the "Bundesweite Arbeitskreis der staatlich getragenen Bildungsstätten im Natur-und Umweltschutz" (BANU) worked together in eight federal states for more than three years in the context of education for sustainable development. At least one state academy for nature and environmental protection and one botanical garden each offered innovative educational formats on the topic of "political plants".

The teams consisted of botanical gardens from eight federal states: Bonn, Forstbotanischer Garten Tharandt, Greifswald, Kiel, Mainz, Münster, Potsdam, Rostock, Schulbiologiezentrum Hannover, Tropengewächshaus Witzenhausen and the Frankfurt Science Garden, as well as nature conservation academies from eight federal states: Berlin, Hesse, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Schleswig-Holstein and Saxony.

The biology didactics departments of the universities of Rostock and Frankfurt were also involved.

The project homepage www.die-politische-pflanze.de will be shut down on 30.6.
