Project "The Political Plant" Receives National Award - Education for Sustainable Development: Realizing the Global Sustainable Development Goals (ESD 2030)

The joint project "The Political Plant" by the Tropical Greenhouse Witzenhausen and the Didactics of Political Education (both University of Kassel) with the Association of Botanical Gardens (VBG) and the Nationwide Working Group of State-Owned Environmental Education Centers (BANU) receives the National Award - Education for Sustainable Development.

The project, funded by the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU), impressed the jury with its exemplary commitment to ESD and special dedication to the United Nations' Global Sustainability Goals. On October 28, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the German Commission for UNESCO presented it with the National Award - Education for Sustainable Development.

The award recognizes organizations, networks and municipalities that are committed to shaping our society in a livable, sustainable way as part of the UNESCO ESD 2030 programme. Dr. Andrea Ruyter-Petznek, Head of the Department of Education in Regions, Education for Sustainable Development at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, and Dr. Roman Luckscheiter, Secretary-General of the German Commission for UNESCO, presented the award to 22 stakeholders for their outstanding commitment. The award-winning initiatives reach people with innovative educational programs, content and ideas and empower learners to play an active and responsible role in shaping a sustainable future.
