The graduate program of Bangalore dynamics (GP-BangaDyn) is part of the graduate academy at the University of Kassel. The program was set-up in cooperation with the DFG research unit FOR2432 located at the Universities of Kassel and Göttingen. The graduate program analyses the process of rural to urban transformation in the Metropolitan region of Bangalore in South India. The subproject on “Rural-urban dynamics and the up-scaling and formalization of water governance” looks at how institutions are changing and regulating the interdependence of actors, in the course of changes in property-rights and governance structures around waterbodies in the Metropolitan region. The study relying on the polycentric governance framework focuses on the effects of urbanization on collective water management with questions who were and are the main actors and institutions that are responsible for water governance. Further, we look at the question of why and how actors and institutions interact and try to understand the changes in institutional arrangements and how these changes in (institutions, actor constellations) have influenced water governance around waterbodies along the Vrishabhavathi river watershed in Southern Bangalore.
