“Visionary Roadmaps: Crafting an Inclusive and Participatory European Democracy with Youth and Communities”

INCHER member PhD Ömer Caliskan is part of a group conducting collaborative research within the framework of YOUROPE. Colleagues from 17 organizations (universities and NGOs) and from 11 EU countries are concentrating on “Visionary Roadmaps: Crafting an Inclusive and Participatory European Democracy with Youth and Communities”. The total budget is €4 million.

YOUROPE, a Horizon Europe project, envisions a Europe where young people do not just have a seat at the table but are leading the conversation; it aims to support building a democracy that is inclusive, fair, and responsive to real-life challenges. YOUROPE brings together 17 partners from across Europe. Human rights groups, higher education institutions, youth-led organizations, and educational experts have joined forces to reimagine how young people and their communities engage with democracy. Using innovative Community-Led Research and Action (CLRA), YOUROPE will aim to empower youth, especially those often left out, to lead change in their communities and neighborhoods and all the way up to policymaking circles.

From November 26 to 28, 2024, YOUROPE launched its research with a kick-off meeting at Coventry University’s Brussels Hub. This gathering marked the start of a three-year collaboration where partners met face-to-face, set plans for the first deliverables, and engaged with the European Commission project officers to ensure a seamless start.
