Waste perspective
Waste reduction (Waste perspective)
Food losses and wastes contribute greatly to the unsustainability of food systems. They occur along the entire value chain, vary according to country, food, and season and represent a considerable waste of resources (water, land, energy, labor, capital). The reduction of FLW is an important lever to improve the sustainability of food systems. And reducing food losses and waste is one of the central goals of the 21st century worldwide and is firmly anchored in the United Nations' Agenda 2030, in the EU's concept for sustainable development, and also in national strategies.
The SysOrg Waste perspective aims at providing answers to the following questions:
- What is the current level of waste at consumption level?
- In which way is waste correlated with food behaviour?
- Do small areas have waste indicators different from large urban contexts?
- What are suitable strategies for more resource-efficient and less waste producing food systems?
- What are the critical points?
