More than ever in modern history, housing and urban land are the most tradable and wealth building forms of property. This means that what is known as spatial planning of a certain locality is at the same time, possibly, a process of global asset value appreciation. But in order for this to be apparent and understood, we need investigative research that connects the spatiality of a certain location with its role as a major asset in the financial market.
On the other hand, we also need to understand the power and function of spatial planning and building economies which counter the reproduction of the dominant market relations and create spaces of commonality. Therefore, during the investigative Research seminar ”The Productivity of Common Ownership Models” we will superimpose the financial, e.i. transactional role of urban land with the use value produced in projects of common ownership.
Authors that we will read during the seminar: Silvia Federici, Neil Smith, Manuel Aalbers, Josh Ryan-Collins, Joanna Kusiak and others.
The central goal of the seminar is to develop an investigative research on the performative nature of financial real estate transactions versus the use value or productivity of common ownership models. The final result will be a group graphic presentation of land value appreciation and social and property relations that counter it.
