Project description
The concept for a self-harvesting of vegetables was developed in the late 1980s in Austria and came to Germany in the late 1990s. Farms with organic production lay out approx. 80 m2 crop parcels of land with 20 to 30 various vegetables. In mid-May the parcels of land are given over to the users. They then attend and harvest these areas and give them back to the farmer in autumn/winter.
The department's task is on the one hand to record the economic effects of the vegetables self-harvesting for the sale of other products with off-farm sales and on the other hand to investigate possible image effects which result from vegetables self-harvesting for the farm itself.
