Learning from Europe
Targets
The task of a project group of up to six people is to independently prepare and carry out an interdisciplinary one-week technical excursion for 30 students and teachers. The aim is to get to know the agricultural structure and ecological agriculture of the target region and its differences to Germany. Since 1993, the project has been carried out every year to almost every neighboring European country.
Event Management
The student project groups have plenty to do. They not only learn specialist knowledge on the respective topic of the excursion, but also many activities that they can put to good use later in their agricultural careers:
- Working in a team: The project group works together in a motley team for three quarters of a year and has to achieve a goal within a fixed period of time. Work organization and dealing with conflicts must be learned.
- Communication: Written and oral communication with potential speakers and donors, often in foreign languages, requires a professional demeanor. Conversation skills and facilitation are practiced during the field trip.
- Finance: Fundraising, bookkeeping and accounting using a practical example with a required budget of approximately 15,000 Euros will be conducted.
Results
The evaluations of the project show that the trips leave a deep impression on the participants. Organic agriculture has developed somewhat differently in each country, due to the different climatic and political conditions and the respective pioneers who shape it there. The participants are impressed by the performance of the organizing students and enjoy the special flair created by particular focal points.
