Occupational fields

The occupational fields for physicists are diverse. Only about one-fifth work in the traditional occupation of physicist. Physicists are also in demand in IT and financial professions, sales, management, consulting and apprenticeships. The development on the labor market is very encouraging in the long term. Unemployment hardly plays a role, and the unemployment figures have been declining for decades, except for cyclical fluctuations. Statistically, physicists have the highest satisfaction with their choice of study among all subjects. In particular, the research areas of optics and nanotechnology pursued in Kassel have a promising future.

The German Physical Society (Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft) collects statistics annually to analyze occupational fields and developments in the job market.
