Biologisation of Technology
Biologisation of technology or biological transformation describes the systematic application of knowledge about natural processes as well as nature itself for the purpose of optimisation and adaptation with regard to essential challenges of society.
With the biologisation of technology, the possibility arises of creating completely transformable units in production and logistics. Biointelligent value creation systems are able to adapt their architecture autonomously for the optimal solution of a production order.
In the context of biological transformation, the research fields of bionics, biotechnology and bioeconomy should be mentioned in particular, which have already been the starting point for far-reaching innovations in the past, such as the lotus effect in surface coatings, new logistics concepts based on swarm intelligence and flight structure concepts such as winglets.
An essential feature of this research approach is to consider production processes and the resulting material properties as an inseparable unit, as this is the only way to establish a fully biologised process chain.
In this context, interdisciplinary cooperation with natural sciences, mathematics and computer science is of particular importance. At the same time, however, this approach also offers opportunities for business and economic support of research work.
