Economics, in general, is often being used for explaining why social change is not possible. But this is not necessarily so. Economy can be a context for change. With this seminar, we want to analyze and understand socio-economic aspects of urban space: the interdependencies of the building economy and the housing crisis, ownership and affordability, financing, and project development, as well as comprehensive eco-social costs in the context of climate and distributive justice.
The aim of the seminar is to study the logics and structural conditions of economies in urban space as well as to speculate on paths for radical transformation in the direction of a socio-ecological building economy and democratic project development.
The seminar will comprise readings on diverse and feminist economies, foundational economy and the study of respective architectural and urban design projects.
Submissions: An outline of a seminar paper is to be presented at the Roundtable (Blockseminar) in June. The seminar paper is to be submitted at the end of the semester.
Maximum of 20 students, recommended for higher semesters, Bachelor students only after successful BPS work.
