Experiential learning outside the classroom

It is not so easy to answer this question, because going from the classroom to the museum or memorial, to the local court, the town hall or the market hall is by no means the same as learning in these places. Compared to lessons in the "safe space of school", leaving the classroom presents teachers with a number of challenges. After all, learning German in the market hall or in the Bergpark can only work if the lessons are prepared and followed up on site in learning arrangements and the pupils are given tasks that enable them to explore the respective situation independently, with a focus on action and communication.

The project seminar "Experience-oriented learning outside the classroom: from speechless amazement to animated conversation", which was awarded the 2013 Teaching Innovation Prize by the Department of German as a Foreign and Second Language (DaFZ) at the University of Kassel, aims to prepare prospective German teachers for planning and conducting lessons outside the classroom.
