In October 2007, Barbara M. Kehm from INCHER-Kassel was approached by the Flemish Ministry of Work, Education and Training, Department of Education and Training with the request to recruit a number of experts to contribute research-based papers on a series of issues important for the upcoming European debates about a sustainable future of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). The Ministry was particularly interested to include the perspective of higher education researchers into the preparation of a strategic plan to secure a sustainable future for the EHEA in the decade from 2010 until 2020. In carrying out the project, finding potential contributors, reviewing the contributions, summarising first drafts and get the manuscripts ready for publication Barbara Kehm cooperated with Jeroen Huisman (University of Bath, UK), Bjorn Stensaker (NIFUSTEP, Oslo, Norway) and was assisted by Yasemin Yagci, doctoral student at INCHER-Kassel. Barbara M. Kehm presented an overview of the project outcomes at the Bologna Seminar „Bologna 2020: Unlocking Europe’s potential – Contributing to a better world“ organised by the Flemish Community of Belgium and Luxembourg, 19-20 May 2008, Ghent (Belgium).
