in brief
The "integrated study abroad programme" (IAS) of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), which has been evaluated by INCHER-Kassel researchers allows small groups of German students to study abroad for one to two semesters in the context of subject-specific agreements between German and foreign universities. The study of INCHER-Kassel analyzed changes in the programme throughout the last ten years, but the focus was on the current situation. The data of the study were based on the results of surveys and interviews with heads of IAS programs and on the results of the survey of the 1997/98 students. The report reflects especially the experience with IAS-sponsored exchange programs from the perspective of the actors involved. A special focus was laid on the reflections of the main participants of the IAS program, their ideas and wishes, but also their open criticism and commendations according to specific aspects of the program. These approaches, ideas, opinions and criticisms were systematically summarized and analyzed and presented in a process oriented way.
