Women Workers in a Globalised World - An Analysis of Social Human Rights and Core Labour Standards in Textile Sector in Pakistan
Abstract
The project encloses a qualitative research study on conditions, position and treatment of women workers in textile industry in Pakistan. Another focus of this research is to understand the fine line between cultural differences after internationalisation. There is a need to identify the practices of working culture and then relate them to how actors feel, think, and react in different settings. In order to understand the right to work, education, healthcare and social security we have to figure out the complexity of social human rights, their political, legal and normative implications, as well as their social and cultural preconditions and consequences. Hereby the subjective experiences of women, their vulnerability and the analysis of the relationship between globalized, Universalist standards and local contexts play an important role.

Research Interests
There is a deep gap between human rights standards and the social reality in which women live. In human rights discourse, women have always been among the most vulnerable groups. A central question of my research is the importance of social human rights and the associated validity in specific local contexts. My interest in research is to examine the specific vulnerability of women from a human rights perspective, using the example of Pakistani workers, and to understand them in their social, cultural, political and normative conditions.
