General information
The President of the university is generally authorized to publish press and public relations work for the entire university. He or she delegates this right to the Communications and Marketing Office, which in turn delegates this right to the respective head of an organizational unit. Heads can delegate the right to publish to employees.
The respective head of the institution is responsible for the content of the Faculty, Institute and departmental websites as well as the websites of the central institutions and other organizational units. This also applies to all official activities of the departments in social networks and network communities that serve as a platform for mutual exchange and evaluation.
Employees should observe the following guidelines in all forms of online communication:
- Employees are perceived as "ambassadors" of the University of Kassel. They make a significant contribution to the public image of the university. Therefore, only employees expressly commissioned or authorized by the division management should be active in this area of responsibility.
- Information must be carefully checked for relevance, correctness, style and form before publication. Employees are obliged to comply with confidentiality guidelines as well as copyright, data protection and personal rights, especially when posting on social networks. Compliance with scientific codes with regard to external services and valid scientific results must also be taken into account.
- In all official activities in social networks and network communities, employees are expected to treat communication partners fairly and respectfully: Discriminatory comments are to be refrained from. Questionable content or links to questionable content also have no place on the website or in social networks used for business purposes. Employees of the University of Kassel who are active on the internet as private individuals should always keep professional and private matters separate.
Responsibilities for editorially designed content must be clearly identified in accordance with Section 5 of the German Telemedia Act and Section 55 of the Interstate Broadcasting Treaty. The departments are therefore obliged to create a link to the university's imprint page (http://www.uni-kassel.de/uni/impressum.html) in the footer of the website. Due to the delegation of publication, the departments are also obliged to create a web page on their website with the title "Editorial office" and the name and work address of the person responsible for the content. This website must also be linked in the footer of the website. The background to this is the legal requirement that this information must be "clearly visible and easy to find at any time". If several persons responsible for the content are named, it must be made clear for which part of the offer the respective named person is responsible.
The activation of a new website (project websites, new departmental websites,... - not the activation of individual websites) must be communicated to the Communication and Marketing Office two weeks before the publication date, if possible by e-mail. This is primarily a matter of checking the website with regard to compliance with legal and university-specific requirements and integration into the overall structure.
The establishment of official web presences with external service providers is subject to approval by the Office of Communications and Marketing - acting on behalf of the President. Under no circumstances may new web addresses be registered with the central German registry (DENIC) in the name of the University of Kassel without prior approval or may external parties be commissioned to register them.
Path names in subdomains and Go links that relate to central topics or organizational names of the University of Kassel and apply to the university as a whole (e.g. www.uni-kassel.de/go/jahresbericht) must be agreed with the Office of Communications and Marketing before being set up.
Employees are not authorized to register the University of Kassel as an overall organization with web services such as Google Maps or social platforms and/or to enter central contact details. This is part of the official external communication of the university and is only done by authorized employees of the Office of Communications and Marketing.
