Ordering personal protective equipment (PPE)

PPE is procured via the WPS catalog. The cost of procurement must be borne by the departments, divisions, work groups or facilities.

Clothing

In the WPS catalog you will find, among other things, the product catalog of the company Engelbert Strauss GmbH & Co KG.
Engelbert Strauss offers the possibility to have different clothing or lab coats provided with the logo of the University of Kassel.

Foot protection

Safety footwear is used to protect the feet from injury. For many activities it is necessary to wear safety footwear adapted to the hazard situation. When purchasing safety footwear, it should be borne in mind that the wearer will usually have to wear the footwear for the entire working day and then every working day. More detailed information can be found in DGUV regulation 112-991 "Use of foot and knee protection".

Foot protection, orthopedic

Safety shoes are certified and must not be modified to maintain the designated protection. Therefore, in accordance with DGUV Rule 112-991, each orthopedic adaptation to safety shoes must be separately type-tested. The wearing of private insoles in safety shoes is therefore not permitted! If an orthopedic insole or an orthopedic modification of the safety shoe is required, a specialist recommendation with justification from an orthopedist or the company physician is necessary. After the examination, the costs for orthopedically adapted safety shoes will be covered by the respective specialty/group. Orthopedic shoe adjustments and comfort custom insoles are certified for most uvex safety group safety shoes.

Skin protection

The skin is exposed to a variety of stresses at work.
Skin diseases are therefore among the most common illnesses at workplaces. Regular handling of irritating or corrosive hazardous substances, mechanical effects, cold and damp work, UV radiation and prolonged wearing of moisture-proof gloves can damage the skin.

The skin protection plan lists the skin protection, skin cleansing and skin care products to be used to protect the skin. It must be made known to the employees as a notice.
The contents of the skin protection plan should be part of regular instruction.

Eye and face protection

Eye protection protects the eyes from mechanical, chemical, biological, electrical and thermal hazards, but also from weather and radiation-related hazards. Eye protection is often combined with face protection, because the hazards to the eyes can also affect the entire face, or only in this way is effective protection possible. Further information can be found in DGUV regulation 112-992 "Use of eye and face protection". The type of protection required is determined by the risk assessment.

Safety glasses, optically corrected

If optically corrected eye protection is required, an examination must be performed by the company physician. With the certificate issued, optically corrected eye protection can be made. If you have any questions, please contact the VC - Occupational Safety & Environmental Protection group.
