Dr. David Römer has been Professor of German Linguistics at the University of Kassel since August, specializing in the semantics and lexicology of Modern High German. After studying German language and literature and history at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, he worked as a doctoral student and postdoc at the Universities of Trier and Vechta. In 2016, Römer completed his doctorate with a linguistic thesis on the linguistic construction of economic crises. In his research, he deals with public language use in various forms and works on argumentation theory and analysis. David Römer is currently leading a DFG research project on "Language in conspiracy theories". This project is a focus of his work in Kassel. He is also interested in questions of linguistic language criticism. His aim is to raise awareness of the (appropriate) use of language. For this reason, he is on the jury for the "Word of the Year" award.
