Scientific conference on organic farming from March 5 at the University of Kassel

At the conference, the experts will discuss the sustainability opportunities offered by organic farming. They will be guided by the sustainability goals of the United Nations. "Globally, nationally and regionally, we are facing challenges that challenge our self-image, our problem-solving skills and our innovative strength," says Prof. Dr. Detlev Möller from the Department of Organic Agricultural Sciences at the University of Kassel. "The question now is what forward-looking contributions rapidly and dynamically growing organic agriculture can make to achieving these sustainability goals. We need to talk about this."

Hessian Environment Minister Priska Hinz will be among the speakers. On Wednesday, March 6 at 18:30, Minister of State Hinz will report on what has already been achieved and the update of the action plan for the further development of organic farming from the perspective of the state of Hesse in her speech on the topic of Hesse: Model eco-region Germany. Other speakers will include Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker, Honorary President of the Club of Rome, Jan Plagge, President of Bioland and IFOAM EU, and Uwe Schneidewind, President of the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy.

"We are particularly pleased to be able to offer many exciting plenary lectures and excursions as well as a rich supporting program in addition to the specialist lectures," says Möller. In addition to lectures, there will also be numerous workshops. The conference dinner on Thursday, March 7, 2019, will feature a regional organic menu, a performance by the theater group "Stille Hunde" and live music by the band "Musik for the Kitchen".

The 15th Scientific Conference on Organic Farming is organized by the University of Kassel, Department of Organic Agricultural Sciences (Witzenhausen), the Landesbetrieb Landwirtschaft Hessen (LLH) and the Stiftung Ökologie & Landbau. The conference will take place in the Campus Center of the University of Kassel, Moritzstraße 18, in Kassel.
