Thorsten Jablonski new member of the University Council

The Hessian Ministry of Science and the Arts appointed Jablonski (49) on September 1, 2018, for a period of four years. Jablonski was head of Volkswagen's Kassel plant in Baunatal until the end of October 2018. Since November 1, 2018, he has been in charge of the Transmissions and E-Drives business unit in the newly created Components Group area.

After studying mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Braunschweig, Jablonski has held various positions in the Volkswagen Group since 1994. Before moving to Baunatal in 2016, he managed the plant in Braunschweig and the Chassis business unit.

"We are delighted that Mr. Jablonski is strengthening our university council. With his professional background, he also brings there a great deal of expertise in the technical sciences, i.e. in a strong research field of the University of Kassel," said the President of the University of Kassel, Prof. Dr. Reiner Finkeldey.

In accordance with the Hessian Higher Education Act, the University Council accompanies the university in its development, articulates the expectations that exist in the professional world and promotes the use of scientific knowledge and artistic achievements. Among other things, it has a right of initiative on fundamental matters of the university and must approve development planning. The University Council consists of up to ten members, and is chaired by Prof. Dr. Wilfried Müller.
