Hands-on research on Physics Day

The "Day of Physics" at the University of Kassel offers a varied program for curious people of all ages. It is being organized by the Institute of Physics on 8 July after a long break due to the pandemic: from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Institute will open its doors for exciting experiments and insights into research.

The Institute's working groups not only present their research work, but also a variety of amazing experiments - to watch, join in and be amazed. The tour of the laboratories at the Oberzwehren site (Heinrich-Plett-Straße 40) has something for all ages and all levels of experience. Guided tours of the otherwise closed research laboratories are offered every hour throughout the day.

Pupils interested in physics can find out more about studying physics at an information event at 12.00 noon (lecture hall 0298) or talk to staff throughout the event. There will be hands-on experiments for children in the physics learning workshop.

The highlight of the day will be the keynote lecture by guest speaker Prof. Joachim Ullrich at 2 p.m. (lecture hall 0298). Prof. Ullrich is President of the German Physical Society. In his lecture "From the original kilogram to quanta", he will talk about the development of units of measurement and measurement methods in physics - a fascinating and topical subject.

The event will take place at the university campus in Oberzwehren, Heinrich-Plett-Straße 40, 34132 Kassel. The on-site cafeteria will be open and will be serving drinks, hot and cold meals and snacks.
