In the semester exhibition Rundgang R:30, the Department of Architecture Urban Planning Landscape Planning (ASL) at the University of Kassel will be showing more than 40 local, German and European projects from July 16 to 18. The focus is on the exchange between the three fields of study as well as interdisciplinary research and teaching. The exhibition is open to visitors from 9 am to 6 pm.

Anyone studying architecture, urban and regional planning or landscape architecture and landscape planning in Kassel learns in a project-oriented way: Over the course of the semester, ASL students develop their own models, designs and concepts and discuss them with fellow students, specialist representatives and the public - as is usual in later practice. The exhibition is accompanied by several evening events - such as an urban hike organized by the Department of Open Space Planning, a party in Hafenstraße and the award ceremony for the best model and the best drawing.

A special focus will be on the NHW Award 2024 with proposals for bridging the Unterneustadt and Bettenhausen districts to Kassel's city center, the Germany-wide cooperation project Ruinen der Spekulation (Ruins of Speculation ) and a project for the European Capital of Culture 2024 Bad Ischl Salzkammergut.

Projects in Kassel and northern Hesse

How can Bettenhausen and Unterneustadt be better connected to Kassel city center? Several departments of the Institute of Architecture, Urban Development, Landscape Architecture and Landscape Planning are working on this question. Together with Nassauische Heimstätte I WohnstadtGmbH , the ASL department is offering the NHW Award 2024. The award deals with topics of urban living and housing and this year's motto is Brückenschlag Bettenhausen. Connecting districts - daring to experiment with the city of tomorrow. The projects focus, for example, on social sustainability or climate resilience in the two Kassel districts of Bettenhausen and Unterneustadt.

The exhibition will present other local projects at the Kassel Afternoon on Wednesday: sometimes it's about a new spatial design concept for a derelict area on Philosophenweg, sometimes about sustainable gardening at the interface of self-sufficiency and climate change in Kirchditmold or about a future utilization concept for the forest school in Wilhelmshöhe.

Germany-wide and Europe-wide projects

In addition to local and regional studies, the semester exhibition also presents projects from across Germany and Europe. In the collaborative project Ruins of Speculation, students at the University of Kassel developed concepts for the common good for the unfinished Elbtower in Hamburg, whose construction was halted following the insolvency of Signa. For the European Capital of Culture 2024 Bad Ischl Salzkammergut , students created two wooden pavilions for the international Buddhist center Rangjung Yeshe Gomde in the project Gomde: Places of Change . The result is a place of meditation and silence. The focus is on the connection between architecture and inner contemplation.

All projects address current social, political and economic issues. The R:30 tour in the summer semester 2024 is organized by academic and student staff from the departments of Construction and Project Development | Architecture City Economy (Prof. Dr. Gabu Heindl) and Structural Design (Prof. Dr.-Ing. Julian Lienhard). Detailed information on the projects and the program can be found on the R:ein website https://r-ein.de/ and on the department's website www.uni-kassel.de/go/rundgang.
