Opening of the SDG+ summer exhibition "Everything different? Paths to Transformation" in the theme year "Transformations in Energy + Environment"

The world around us is changing - heavy rainfall and hot summers in northern Hesse are having a noticeable local impact as natural resources become increasingly scarce. Saving electricity, cycling more and preparing for storms - will everything be different in the future? From July 9 to October 19, the SDG+ Lab's new exhibition "Everything different? Paths to transformation" shows how people and institutions from Kassel are actively shaping change for a shared future.

Can we have a say in the direction we take? Where do we even want to go? Why should we - and others - get involved? And how can a transformation succeed? As part of the "Transformations in Energy + Environment" theme year, the exhibition focuses on the work within the project, but also shows what committed people from science and society in the region are already contributing to change for a sustainable region. Visitors are actively involved in shaping, developing their vision of a North Hesse of the future and moving the lever of transformation.

SDG+Lab | Laboratory for sustainability issues

Together, we are tackling the big sustainability issues of our time. From 2023 to 2027, the SDG+ Lab will bring together science, business and society and develop impulses and concrete solutions for a sustainable region of Kassel and North Hesse along the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.

Thematic years

Starting in fall 2023, ideas for solutions and model projects for the region will be developed in four consecutive themed years in the so-called "Experimentale". Each theme year summarizes different aspects of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and relates them to the North Hesse region.

Transformations in energy and the environment: In the first round of the "Energy and Environment" experimentals, climate-friendly alternatives were made tangible in the areas of energy, mobility, buildings and consumption. From November 2023, "pop-up city district stores" were set up as experimental spaces in several districts of Kassel for two months at a time. These will serve as bases for implementing a wide range of participatory activities for the local population, such as workshops, expert discussions and working group meetings. The activities initiated are then monitored for up to one year.
