Part-time position with three quarters the working hours of a full-time employee. This is a fixed term-position of 1,5 years with the possibility of extending the contract for a further two years (position for academic qualification corresponding to § 65 HHG i. V. m. § 2 Abs. 1 Satz 1 WissZeitVG; opportunity for PhD project).

Tasks:

  • We perform interdisciplinary research on electromagnetic sensors for the life sciences. The goal is to develop high sensitivity terahertz (THz) sensors for protein spectroscopy, in an effort with contributions from biophysics, semiconductor technology, and electromagnetic theory. The results will have an impact on the state of the art in drug research or the molecular study of diseases.
  • The successful candidate will develop a simulation model for semiconductor based THz sensors that describes the materials response and the electromagnetic behavior of functional THz elements within a sensor, such as antennas, lenses or waveguides. Based on the model results, high performance sensor setups will be designed and implemented in close collaboration with the project partners. The partners will provide the technology and the biological characterization, and we will support the data analysis of the sensing results by simulation studies.
  • We offer an attractive position with the possibility to attend international conferences, publish in scientific journals, and participate in project management and teaching activities. Our research partners in industry and academia enable the candidate to build an extensive network, and we have access to latest technologies and devices.

Requirements:

  • Master or Diploma in physics, mathematics or electrical engineering.
  • Knowledge in electromagnetic theory, semiconductors, numerical modeling, and software development.
  • The position qualifies for obtaining a PhD.

Advantages:

  • Knowledge in electromagnetic theory, semiconductors, numerical modeling, and software development.
