bewerbungen[at]uni-kassel[dot]de

Part-time with half of the regular working time of a full-time employee. The position is initially limited for 1 year with the possibility of extension within the project "Insertion and folding of beta-barrel membrane proteins in lipid bilayers - functions of BamA (YaeT) and membrane-anchored BAM proteins on the folding of integral membrane proteins" (§ 2 Abs. 1 WissZeitVG). The possibility to do a PhD is given.

Tasks:

Research on the incorporation of proteins into membranes as well as protein-protein interactions on model membranes; research on methods and principles of folding and incorporation of membrane proteins, spectroscopy, protein expression and purification, site-directed mutagenesis, membrane proteins as well as biomimetic membranes.

The methodological focus of the department of biophysics is on:

  • Preparation of mutants of membrane proteins from bacteria or eukaryotic cell organelles, protein expression and isolation from cells using chromatographic methods.
  • Preparation of lipid model membranes and proteoliposomes
  • Investigation of protein-protein and protein-lipid interactions
  • Investigation of membrane properties and functions
  • Spectroscopy (fluorescence, ESR (EPR), CD spectroscopy)
  • Structure/functional relationships of proteins
  • Kinetics and thermodynamics of biomolecular structural changes and interactions

Modern laboratories and software equipment are available for all areas to perform experimental work and analyze the results.

Prerequisites:

  • University scientific degree in biochemistry or biophysics completed with at least good grades.
  • experience with molecular biology, expression and purification of proteins
  • Experience with biophysical methods

Advantageous are:

  • good knowledge of English
  • thorough and independent working methods
  • a high degree of organizational skills
  • experience in protein spectroscopy
