Part-time with half the regular working hours of a full-time employee. The position is initially limited until 31.10.2021 as part of the project "MILIA - Technical advancements of multi-lidar measurement campaigns for yield forecasting and performance verification" (§ 2 para. 2 WissZeitVG). The possibility of a doctorate is given. You can expect a varied, creative working environment in a committed, interdisciplinary project team in a personal, solution-oriented working atmosphere. You will work closely with the Fraunhofer Institute for Energy Economics and Energy System Technology IEE and with a leading manufacturer of wind turbines.

Tasks:

Your work is part of the MILIA joint project funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi). The aim of the project is to further develop multi-lidar measurements and prepare them for use in the wind industry. One promising area of application is multi-lidar-based wind potential assessments. This is because multi-lidar systems make it possible to record the wind at various points in the planned wind farm with just one measurement setup. In this context, the University of Kassel is developing a method for uncertainty quantification and reduction in the sub-project "Multi-lidar measurements". The following work is planned in the sub-project:

  • Development of methods for analyzing and quantifying the uncertainties of multi-lidar measurements as a basis for the two applications targeted in the project: wind and yield assessments and site calibration for the remeasurement of power curves
  • Development of methods to reduce the uncertainties of multi-lidar measurements in close cooperation with Fraunhofer IEE
  • Carrying out literature research, simulations and metrological determination of uncertainties
  • Practical activities such as setting up, programming, documenting and supervising multi-lidar measurement campaigns in collaboration with Fraunhofer IEE
  • Preparation and analysis of wind measurement data

Requirements

  • Completed scientific university degree in the field of engineering, natural sciences or mathematics
  • good programming skills in Matlab, Python or another programming language
  • good written and spoken German and English language skills.
  • Willingness to supervise measurement technology
  • Interest in practice-oriented, application-oriented scientific work
  • Organizational skills and ability to work in a team.
  • Willingness to travel within and outside Germany
  • Thorough and independent way of working
  • Interest in writing a doctoral thesis

Advantageous are:

  • Experience in the field of wind energy
  • Knowledge of measurement technology, especially wind measurements with lidar
  • Knowledge in the field of micrometeorology
  • Knowledge of site assessment and power curve measurement
