The Department of Cutting and Joining Manufacturing Processes at the University of Kassel deals with both cutting and joining manufacturing processes. Welding joining technology is a research focus at the department. Friction stir welding is considered an innovative welding process. The department investigates numerous issues relating to this welding process (e.g. welding of modern materials, tool development and manufacture) as part of publicly funded projects as well as in industrial projects.

Your tasks:

As part of the publicly funded project, friction stir welding is to be qualified for joining additively manufactured components together with industrial and research partners. To this end, both the system technology and the joining process must be further developed, optimized and tested. In particular, this includes the selection, production and optimization of suitable welding tools using exciting processes as well as subsequent heat treatment and coating processes.

The main tasks include the scientific processing and cooperative management of this research topic, the implementation, evaluation and interpretation of experimental investigations, the supervision of student assistants and participation in the implementation of courses.

Your requirements:

  • Above-average university degree (diploma or master's degree) in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, materials science
  • Experience in the fields of welding and production technology, machining technology, CNC machine programming, analytics (hardness measurement, coating thickness measurement, recording of surface topography) and technical drawing are required
  • Mastery of analysis software (Origin, DIAdem, LabVIEW, Mark III) is required
  • Careful, independent and team-oriented way of working
  • Very good verbal and written communication skills (German and English)

If you would like to work in a versatile and dynamic team on future issues in production technology, we look forward to receiving your application.
