Tasks:

Your task will be to research and develop methods for data-driven modeling of non-linear additive manufacturing processes. In particular, the focus is on the prediction of workpiece properties from manipulated variables and process measured variables in selective laser melting (SLM) for improved control and regulation of the SLM process. The method development is to be oriented towards the knowledge areas of system identification, machine learning, computational intelligence and related fields. The problem is part of an interdisciplinary research project that also involves departments from the fields of materials engineering, control theory and computer science at the University of Kassel. The methods are to be tested and demonstrated using data from an SLM system. In addition, you will support courses and practicals in the department as well as scientific and organizational work.

You will havethe opportunity to gain early experience in leading a small working group by supervising Bachelor's and Master's theses and student assistants. We will support you in achieving your scientific and technical goals.

Requirements:

  • Clearly above-average university degree in mechatronics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or a comparable course of study
  • Good knowledge and interest in the field of mathematical, in particular empirical modeling
  • Fluent written and spoken German and good knowledge of English
  • Programming experience in Matlab and/or Python
  • Experience in the areas of system identification and machine learning is an advantage
  • Experience in additive manufacturing is an advantage
